Title/Author: The Richest Man in Babylon by George S. Clason
Reason for Reading: Looking for inspiration
Pre-thought: Let's see how they did it in the old world and see if I can take that advice and make it practical for the new era.
Recap of Book: You will begin by being introduced to the city of Babylon as it stands in a ruined economical condition. Its people are unemployed, food is hard to come by, and most of the gold is held in the hands of a few wealthy men of the city.
The King of Babylon had several projects undergoing that were recently finished and it seemed without those projects the common people had no way or knowing of how to earn money or find work.
The King of Babylon asks his advisor how so few men could hold such enormous fortunes and after the explanation decides to call forth the richest man of Babylon, Arkad, and ask him how he was able to do it. After he learns of how Arkad was able to become the richest man in Babylon he asks Arkad to teach the people. He agrees and the book progresses into teaching you the "7 cures for a lean purse".
The 7 cures are very similar to the advice of many professionals today but the big reason why people aren't successful is because they fail to do all 7 cures, for leaving out but just one, can make all of the difference.
Interesting Points: The seven cures are so basic that you will immediately begin to recognize them as something you've been told or heard of at one point in your life and completely ignored or took it with a grain of salt. The potential resulting from performing all 7 of these things, all the time, is astronomical.
Recommended Audience: Anyone who is looking for a simple solution to fix their financial lives or for an inspirational story that shows you don't have to have money to make money.
After-thought: Very basic and interesting outlook on money making. After reading a variety of books on the topic of finance and business this helped me to get back to the roots of what all of those principles and theories were developed on.
